Mt Cargill: South Face

It was the 50th Anniversary of the climbing of Everest. My flatmate Tom and I decided to do our little bit to honour the legend, Sir Edmund. We suited up appropriately and headed for Bethune Gully. No tracks allowed, we ploughed into the undergrowth, douglas fir for a start then regenerating native scrub getting lower and lower as we climbed quickly. Full body cover was appreciated as we flung ourselves, or tore ourselves uphill. The summit was obtained after about an hour of consistent effort, and we were rewarded with full views of Blueskin Bay and the Otago Peninsula.
