« on: January 31, 2012, 02:56:19 PM »
I left bush's beach which is located one bay south of port fiztroy. I walked towards the Kaiaraara hut and then on the track with the same name passing the kauri dams. I was dropped off on the beach at about 8.30am. I reached Mt Hobson at about 11.30 and I stopped on the way to admire a Kaka parrot stripping Nikau berries amazing sight. I left Mt Hobson and had lunch in the new Mt Heal Hut which was a great hut with a great view and then down the South Fork track and back to bushes beach I left the hut at about 12.00 and was back down at the beach ready for pick up at 2.00pm. A great walk with very good tracks very well maintaned. Good fishing and diving also lucky to be on a boat.

Pinnacles, The / The Pinnacles

What a great walk. I got up at 7.00am and left my house in Auckland and got at the end of the valley road at about 9.00am and started the walk. I got to the hut at about 11.00am and sat down in the kitchen for about an hour and had my lunch and let my shirt dry on the fire. I left my excess gear in the kitchen and then walked up to the pinnacles in about 30 mins. It was blowing hard but clear what a view of both Cormandel and the Hauraki plans. I walked back down to the hut and had a cup of tea and then back down to the car. The whole round trip with a good hour and a half break was 6 hours. Just fantasic the path was alittle wet but not too bad and saw many New Zealand native birds. I can see why it is in the AA 101 things to do.

It took me 1 1/2 hour after a lovely bacon and egg pie and coffe from the tearooms. The rock formations near the summit are pretty cool. I walked this after walking Mt Auckland.

Not much of a summit to speak of but a fantastic walk with views of the west coast and regenerating bush. I walked up the Zion Hill Track and onto the Zion ridge track onto the Buck Taylor track and back onto the Zion Hill Track back to Karekare. It was a sunny day without wind what a walk. It took me about 2.5 - 3 hours medium pace.

walked up the mangatangi trig track from the bridge and then down the 4wd track and followed the road home hoping to catch a view of the dam. You only get a small view but it is beautiful. Did it on a Monday and there was no one else on the track.  Just some watercare workmen by the dam. Did it in 2 and 1/2 hrs. Still carn't get over we have such a beatuiful park on Aucklands door step and no one there. it's great.
