Cargill, Mt / 08 Aug 13

This was a pretty neat walk. The Organ Pipes are cool, kind of like Devils Tower in Wyoming. Mt Cargill is the one that is on the 'list' of NZ peaks to hike, but Butters Peak is just a short walk from there and I enjoyed that one even more. It had a quiet rocky top with great views.

Happen to be in the area for a few days. This short hike was very nice. Did the loop around to the chasm and Lovers Leap, then up to the summit just in time for sunset. It was gorgeous!

Very nice hike, nice views from the platform at the top. I was a little confused at the beginning but found my way eventually. After you walk up the hill at the start and get to the toilet and the barn, make sure to turn left along the field. I missed the turn, went straight and was confused for a while until I back tracked to the top of the hill by the toilet.

Nice little hike, not too much of a lookout at the top. But you can get a bit better view if you climb up on the trig.

Mt Manaia was a very nice hike with some great views. Got to the top quicker than I was expecting. A couple was leaving just as I arrived so I had the summit all to myself to enjoy. =)

Enjoyed a nice afternoon hike up to Bream Head after Mt Manaia.

Started early, good weather. Great views on the way up. Enjoyed the trail, small climbs for a ways and then gets steep as you turn to go up the summit trail. As I got closer to the summit it was getting pretty windy. Dashed up to the top and back down pretty fast to minimize exposure to the wind. Not the type of weather to hang out on the top anyway. I got about half way down the steep summit track and the wind seemed to die down. I felt a little disappointed that I should have taken a bit longer to make it up so maybe I could have been on the top with less wind. BUT, continuing down the trail the views from earlier this morning were gone, clouds and fog were moving in. Other groups started coming up the trail and I was glad I had started early and enjoyed the views despite the wind at the summit. It didn't look like the later groups were going to get any views. Wonderful trail and views but definitely worth waiting for good weather. Would be a shame to climb Mt Somers with no views.

Took the Mt Herbert walkway up from Diamond Harbour. It was a beautiful walk and amazing views. I really enjoyed it quite a bit.

Took the trail over from Mt Herbert. It was fine about halfway over but then turned into a bushwack through a lot of gorse. I enjoyed Herbert quite a bit but didn't really think Bradley was worth the effort or the gorse!

Did a loop, going up the Mt Grey Track and coming down the Red Beech Track. I really enjoyed the Mt Grey Track. It is pretty open and you get great views from about half way up. The Red Beech Track could be good if you want to stay in the woods most of the time but it is less scenic.

Nice day hike. Fairly long distance but not hard other than that. Really neat feeling at the top to look one direction and see Ruapehu and Taranaki 180 degrees the other way!

Went up and down on Scott's Track. A bit steep in places but an excellent hike with amazing views. Had a Kea follow me for a bit and another one looking for a moment to steal anything at the summit. =) Ran into a little ice and snow but nothing significant. Spent about 30 minutes at the summit enjoying the views. Got pretty warm in the afternoon sun on the way down, most of the trail is pretty exposed.

Did the loop around Richardson and zigzagged through the other small scenic paths in the park. Started out foggy and just before getting to the top, the fog lifted and the views were great. Turned out to be a wonderful morning hike.

Weather was supposed to clear up but it never did. Hiked Isobel anyway. Quick hour and a half, maybe 2 hours round trip. Started out a little foggy but got wetter and windier at the top. Seems like it would be a beautiful walk in good weather, will have to come back another time.

Stayed out in the Marlborough Sounds for a few days. Planned to go on the 28th Dec but got to the trail-head and it was all covered in fog. Decided to come back another day. Had to leave later on the 31st to catch the ferry but woke up to beautiful blue skies so I hurried up to the trail-head and got some lovely weather up at the top. Not many views on the way up and a bit of tree roots and mud. But the top is very cool. Enjoyed the views and different perspective of the sounds from up there.
