General Discussion / Scrambling Routes
« on: August 27, 2011, 10:13:02 AM »
Hi guys,

I emigrated from Scotland a couple of years ago and I'm on a quest to try and sample some of the hiking experiences that NZ has to offer. Particularly back home I fell in love with scrambling - that is climbing up mountains using your hands but without the need for ropes etc. Some of my favourite routes were in Glen Coe such as Annoach Eagach or the Curved Ridge of Buachaille Etive Mor.
I was wondering if you guys knew of anything similar in NZ or could recommend any routes. Previously I have climbed Avalanche Peak in Aurthers Pass, described as a steep scramble, but found it quite easy/tame.

Hi, I'm Andy and I've recently moved to windy Wellington from rainy Scotland.
I've climbed a fair few peaks back home and I'm looking forward to getting some proper exposure to the NZ mountains. I've a ten day holiday coming up where I intend to attempt some of the peaks in the Tongariro National Park.

One thing I started getting into back home was ridge walking/scrambling and I'm hopping there'll be opportunities here to further pursue this.
