Title: Maungatautari Summit from Hicks Road return
Post by: vinodrinker on May 24, 2008, 03:57:23 PM
A good steady climb but for no reward in terms of views.

Firstly you cross a farm paddock to a gate designed to keep pest out.  A steady climb up a gravel road hugging the paremtre fence before you peel off to the right to the actual track climbing steadily

It took us 2 hours 15 return to the summit with a break at the top.  The track is obviously quite old and very worn in places and could do with a bit of work. The summit is surrounded by bush and even a climb to the top of the dodgy trig reveals little

However it is good training and relatively steep.  Some nice views from the lower slopes
