Title: Breathtaking views from Ngaurahoe
Post by: andrewcavill on November 25, 2019, 03:29:26 PM
I did this one as a helper with a group of kids from our church. We walked into Mangatepopo Hut after dark on Friday, and it was my first time tramping in the mountains, so I was stunned to step out of the hut early the next morning to be greeted by the sight of a snow-covered Tongariro and Ngaurahoe towering above us. We started in our boots but quickly transitioned into crampons as the snow got thicker. Most of the part pressed on to Ketetahi hut, but a few of us decided to climb Ngaurahoe. It was quite an effort but the views were stunning and it was surreal to stand on the upper slopes and look out over Tongariro. We spent a couple of nights at Ketetahi, and we were able to explore the northern cratar, before finally walking out.
