Whakapoungakau Trig - Ex Okataina Outdoor Pursuits Centre

This is a really good walk with wide even track. The volcanic soil again free draining so no problem with mud and it is suitable to jog (down anyway unless you are real fit)

Leaving the carpark after about 5 minutes you come to a junction and head left where you climb quite steeeply up onto a ridge heading beside the lake shore. After about 50 minutes a junction signposts the Whakapoungakau Trig off to the right. A small drop off and a climb up to the summit takes about 20 minutes.

Photos on the top and a jog down saw exactly 2 hours return which is a bit quicker than stated.

I can't really pin down reasons whey but I really enjoyed this walk.  Although when I was on the summit surrounding weather was caving in id imagine pretty good views on a clear day.
