Otanewainuku - Ex Mountain Road

Finding the way from Te Puke isnt too obvious so do some research before you go.

Basically there is a road off the main road (on left as you head north) called Boucher ave which transforms into "no 2 road" as you drive up it (signage is rare). Continue along no 2 road for about 20 minutes (it heads out into the country winding past kiwifruit and farms). it will turn into a gravel road and eventually head into the bush.

**An alternate route is to take no 1 road which is just south of te puke (though we didnt notice the sign so keep an eye out) this joins onto no 2 road**

Continue for about 5-10 minutes in the bush and "mountain road" will appear on the right.  about 100 metres along this road is a carpark on right and track on left of road with map boards and shelter. The track starts behind this shelter

thats the hardest bit done.

the hike up and back takes the form of a loop track (we did it anti clockwise but would make no difference) It took us only 1 hour including drinks and photos at the top.  there are a few impressive trees to see and good views at the top out over the bay of plenty, tauranga and back over rotorua.  viewing tower at the top.
