A nice cruise, playing in the snow, climbing rotten rock and looking at the view
2  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Tuteremoana (Kapiti Is.) / Tuteremoana Date: April 11, 2010, 04:15:09 PM
An awesom wedding present saw us over on Kapiti, walking the loop to the top and eharing Kokako on the way down, then enjoying the lodge at the northern end of the island.
3  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Arete / Arete Date: April 11, 2010, 04:12:20 PM
Have passed over Arete twice this summer, both times in low visibility. Beware Arete Biv has moved from where located on the topo 50 map. Is now on route south from Arete to Tarn Ridge.

Second trip was Carkeek picnic with Caspar. South Ohau then Yeates track to Arete down past Carkeek, up past McGregor Biv then over to Jumbo road end.
4  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Kapakapanui / Kapakapanui Date: September 04, 2009, 10:05:22 AM
Nice loop available from the Waikanae side with lots of rata growing on the tracks and a good hut in the middle of it if you feel like a lazt couple of days.
5  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Climie, Mt / Climie Date: September 04, 2009, 10:02:16 AM
Got out with the boys on the bikes, nothing much to Climie, apart from hill, its a big bald ventoux like creature lying on the side of upper hutt. Quick down.
6  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Belmont Trig / Belmont trig Date: May 01, 2009, 12:11:01 PM
I have run up here a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, its a beaut. From sea level at Petone, up the windy gorge to some luscious bush and single track. The top is all Horopito scrub, quite unique and there is remnant forest where you least expect it. If you are fit its a solid 90 minute run around a loop and return to your car at the Petone Road end
7  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Umukarikari / Umukarikari Date: May 01, 2009, 12:06:57 PM
On the way home from climbing at Kawakawa bay we stayed with a friend in Turangi and climbed this gem the next morning. The best thing about it is the massive red beech forest from the carpark to the bushline. The tops are typical kaimanawa. Open, flattish and studded by dirt pans. Great day out
8  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Colonial Knob / Colonial Knob Date: May 01, 2009, 12:04:10 PM
It was very wet. We ran up from the Porirua Side, Camp Elsdon, nice uphill through native bush then a brief bit of scrub before open tops. Down in the mist through the seven pines track, past the reservior and back up the road to the initial hill. I imagine it would be a lovely spot on a nice day, finished off by lazing on the beach down at Titahi Bay.
9  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Hirakimata / Opps realised this was on Barrier Date: April 09, 2009, 11:58:22 AM
Found another one that I climbed with a group of friends on an epic training mission on Great Barrier one summer. I Don't remember much apart from maybe it ended in hotpools, or maybe I'm getting confused, it ended with a long walk down a hot road. Beautful country though, steep peaks, crazy old kauri dams. Its coming back now the crazy steps coming down from the top...
10  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Kaukau Peg / Kaukau Peg Date: April 09, 2009, 11:36:52 AM
Have done this occasionally running from Johnsonville.
11  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Whakapoungakau / Whakapungakau Date: April 09, 2009, 11:34:23 AM
Had to search for this one too, before realising I had been there. It was an early morning run from a work ecological monitoring course back in 2003. It was rainy and slippery...great fun!!
12  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Taranaki, Mt / Mt Taranaki Date: April 09, 2009, 11:27:37 AM
Great trip, traversing from south to north also including Fantham and Pouakai.
13  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Pouakai / Pouakai Date: April 09, 2009, 11:23:30 AM
After night at Fanthams hut we ascended the southern slopes of Taranaki, descended the northern side and cruised around to Pouakai. Had some time left at the end of the day so droppped packs and visited the Pouakai trig. The have done a great job developing this loop in an environmentally friendly way.
14  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Otanewainuku / Otanewainuku Date: April 09, 2009, 11:21:11 AM
Looked this up on Topomap and realised it was the hill I used to go running up regularly with my mate Brent when we stayed with his mum in Oropi! Great spot, especially the lower tracks through lovely forest
15  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Fantham's Peak / Fanthams Peak Date: April 09, 2009, 11:08:54 AM
