We climbed Mt Karangahake as part of our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze assessment tramp with others from our school who had signed up for it. The view at the top was amazing. It was an enjoyable weekend tramping around Karangahake gorge and going through a few tunnels and looking at the batteries.  :)
2  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Pirongia, Mt / Mt Pirongia Date: January 29, 2013, 02:28:04 AM
It took us 4 hours and 45 minutes to get up and down Mt Pirongia and we climbed up to Tirohanga on the way there and back. We had lunch at the top of Mt Pirongia and took photos before we headed back to the car park. The weather was great and it was a good day overall. :D
3  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Urchin / Urchin Date: January 08, 2013, 11:53:09 AM
It was an early start as we didn't want to be in the heat all day. We did a 28km loop that went from Umakarikari car park to Umakarikari summit, across to Urchin, down to Urchin car park and back to Umakarikari car park. It took us about 7 and 1/2 hours. It was a good day. There was no cloud in the sky so there were good, clear views. At the top of Urchin there was an old trig and a great view of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro. We stopped to have lunch there and for photos and then we carried on to urchin car park. Overall it was a good day on my first trip to the Kaimanawas.  :D

I climbed Mt Taranaki yesterday and it was really hard. I am still sore today.

It was a fun and challenging hike. We had to pull ourselves up the rocks and coming down the scree was fun and hard.

Here are some pictures.

Here is a link to a movie of our climb.

I haven't hiked for a while, i have been running. Ngauruhoe was the first hike in a long time.

This hike took us three and a half hours to get to the top. It was really windy but also a really sunny day :)

It was fun coming down. We just needed to slide down. We saw heaps of lady bugs at the top on the rocks.
9  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Pouakai / Pouakai Date: January 08, 2010, 02:41:24 AM
When we got there we didn't realise it was muddy so when dad saw the mud he put his tramping boots on instead of his trail shoes. The first bit was gorse and blackberry. We had to get around the prickles which was hard because they were almost everywhere :( .

When we past that part it got really muddy. We had to find a way to get around the mud because if you put your shoe in the mud puddle your whole boot would get muddy and wet. The good thing was was that not all puddles were deep, it was mud but it didn't sink.

When we got to 400 more metres vertical up it got windy and cold so we stopped and put our new rainjackets. The rainjackets were warm. When we got to the top we could see Mt Taranaki. Sometimes the clouds would cover Mt Taranaki but when it didn't we quickly took a picture of it.

Then when we were at the bottom we got into a new t-shirt and drove to get an ice cream. We got an ice cream that was 1 scoop but it looked like a 2 scoop ice cream because it was big. Then we went to a beach and we parked on the road and we ate the ice cream next to the car. We got 2 different flavours with 1 scoop. It was a good mountain to climb. Luckily we went that day because we could get really good pictures of Mt Taranaki at the top.

Below is a picture i took looking down on New Plymouth from the top. Kiri peak is the hill in the foreground.

12  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Holdsworth / Mt Holdsworth Date: December 25, 2009, 03:27:53 PM
Mt Holdsworth was the biggest mountain that I have done. At the top it was snowing. I did it in 6 hours and 40 minutes. It said it was 10 hours so I knocked off 3 hours and 20 minutes! Luckily there was a hut because we got really cold and there was a fire. Ash Bash's gloves were soaking wet! When you squeezed it there was a lot of water. There was also ice all over the trig and on plants. :D

14  North Island Trip Reports and Comments / Mangatangi / Mangatangi Trig Date: October 04, 2009, 10:05:22 AM
Today I climbed Mangatangi from the Upper Mangitauwhiri Dam. We were climbing it to train for the Lactic Turkey Greatest little fun run in November. The road starts flat for about 3km and then the next 3km it gets steep. There wasn't much of a view because we were in the clouds. It was easy down because it was either down hill or flat. We ran most of it. It was fun going down because we could run. I ran all of it when we were going down. Only a couple of times i stopped.  :) :D

Hi

Yesterday I climbed the Pinnacles and I beat my dad by 10 minutes. We did it in 6 and 20 minutes but we stayed at the top for a while. We had to wait for Aerin who was 6 years old and was slow. I finished with my sister and my mum. Our dad and my friend Ashleigh weren't to far behind us. There were ladders, swing bridges and rungs. It was windy and steep and cold at the top.
